Quick Scholar is a suite of programs that don’t necessarily teach you to speak Japanese. Instead they work as a reference to help you practice your Japanese alphabets. Quick Scholar is designed mostly to help you learn how to use the three main Japanese alphabets, hiragana, katakana and kanji.
Each program specializes in one function. Some help you identify the sounds associated with each symbol, another will quiz you on their meaning. Still another teaches you the stroke order for the symbols. Taken all together, Quick Scholar is a great way to practice the alphabets, but not to learn Japanese.
While the programs are all simple, the biggest annoyance is trading back and forth between programs to get all the material. It would be much more useful if the entire Quick Scholar suite was compiled into one program. Even so, Quick Scholar is a useful tool for mastering the Japanese alphabets and would make an excellent supplement to a Japanese class.
